5 Steps to Get Started on Building Your New Home

What should you do first to get started planning for your new custom home? Building a new home can feel overwhelming, especially if you plan to manage the construction yourself. Built Green is here to guide you every step of the way as you get ready to build your own home. So, what comes first?

Vision

When you dream of your new custom home on your own land, what images come to mind? What does the outside look like? How many bedrooms and bathrooms? Can you see yourself entertaining in your kitchen? How do you visualize your master suite? What about the great room? How do you picture your laundry or your mudroom? What special storage do you need? What about the porches where you can enjoy a cup of coffee or something cold and view your own little slice of the Texas Hill Country? Your new custom home begins with your vision and your dream for a retreat for your family. All of this should result in a rough figure for the square footage of the living area, porches and garage.

Target Budget

Once you begin to define the dream for your home, the next step is to count the cost. You may be familiar with the teacher who said 2000 years ago, “Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Won’t you first sit down and estimate the cost to see if you have enough money to complete it? (Luke 14:28NIV) BGCH offers a complimentary session in which we can help you determine the rough cost for your new home. The cost of your land should also be considered.

Loan Prequalification

Once you have a rough cost in mind, it’s time to check on financing. If you need a construction loan, contact BGCH for contact information for our preferred owner builder lender.
